The men's award is decided by a panel of 100 international journalists, with one representative from each of the top 100 FIFA-ranked countries. Meanwhile, the women's award is determined by a panel of 50 journalists. Each journalist submits a list of ten players in descending order, assigning 15 points to their top choice, followed by 12, 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 point(s) respectively.
